Had my XL interview today at IHC, New Delhi. Went for about 12-14 minutes.

three people in the panel. i would call them left (L), middle (M), and right (R). the one in the middle was asking the most questions. following is the transcript : (i am A.)

M: so, what kind of a name is yours ( my fav question :) )..where r u from ??
A: blah blah..kashmir..da elysium
M: (smiling)..ok..been in K for along?
A: not exactly..lived all over india..as student ..alone..studied @ aligarh..first entrance cleared at 16 years ..currently as a faculty in two delhi-based CAT prep insti's..teach verbal and quant both..blah blah
L: hehe..so u r a teacher..smart..both teaching and preparing
A: sir..no need for preparing. as u all know ( a big smile here ) .teaching gives u more learning than anything else
R: ( all smiling now) how many students got thru CAT..
A: taught about 300. abt 7 thru CAT. rest ppl are preparing again or thru other minor exams
R: anybody thru XAT??
A: not really..ur quant percentile cut-off ate away my spoils :))
R: how was the XAt paper ?
A: dint know that u had changed the pattern..wasnt aware of the previous one anyway..overall a good paper.
M: so..u a mechie...whats CRDi ??
A: common rail..different from normal injector systems..etc. ..advantages ..
M: ok..price of diesel = price of petrol..wud u go for diesel car then ??
A: diesel cars r becoming damn good..indica V2 (TATA car, incidently ) just historical bias against diesel..as good as petrol nowadays..all vibration problems..smoke problems etc eliminated
M: so..u a good engr. ??
A: yessiree said something about my supervisor from DRDO, did the project @ IIT kanpur, presented it in an international conference ..also interested in autos..etc.
M: hmm..ok..y MBA
A: (phew !! finally !!!!) engr + MBA + further studies + companies requirement = ankush in demand
M: tries to deviate..MBA is not good for health of industries..MBA=bad managers etc.
A: nope..individual perspective..MBA is pit-stop..learning is forever. if u think it has stopped at after MBA, u have wasted ur talent and other stuff. also depends on a person etc.
M: ok...any other questions from others...L picks up..
L: six sigma vs 4 factor ??
A: six sigma..blah blah..4 factor..dunno
R: ok..six sigma..what abt it...anything else
A: talk abt 6 sigma, erp, flexible manufacturing etc. etc.
R: ok..any others...(nobody.. ) ok..any questions ??
A: batch size limit..on final electives..if any ??
M: none...(some discussion abt toyota n stuff) ..good..u can go now
A: (its only 12 minutes... ) anyways...thank u

i guess there was more to it, but i dont remember now. all i think is that they had decided my candidature early enough. the questions on six sigma and x factor theory were just a way to use up time. the panel seemed happy enough..so i suppose thats good
